Note that this trip does involve a lot of walking, much of it on uneven ground. It may not be suitable for all members. While the bus does not have a bathroom, there are facilities at most of our stops.

8am depart Hamilton Bus Lines, Lakefield

9:15am Arrive at Haliburton Sculpture Forest

The Haliburton Sculpture Forest is a “must see” experience in the region. It is a pleasant hike through the woods and entirely self-guided. 10:15am Leave Sculpture Forest for Abbey Gardens, arrival 10:30am

Abbey Gardens is an inspired community project that encourages visitors to think more sustainably about land, food, energy and economy. A two-acre market garden offers fresh ideas about local food and inspires collaboration. The modern straw bale sustainable building houses a Food Hub and Community Kitchen. The site features local food shopping opportunities through our Food Hub, interpretive trails, heritage breed displays, programming and event spaces, picnic areas and kiosks,  gardens and more! http://www.abbeygardens.ca

12:00pm Leave Abbey Gardens for Lunch at a private garden south of Minden, arrival 12:30pm

Several members of the Haliburton Master Gardeners have volunteered to host us for an “old fashioned garden party” lunch of sandwiches, salads, sweets and beverages.

1:45pm Leave lunch location for Minden’s “River Walk”, arrival 1:50pm

Minden River Walk: a 1.5km walk along both sides of the Gull River, following a path called the Minden Riverwalk. The Haliburton County MGs will host a guided/self guided walking tour of the native plants along the Riverwalk called “Stepping into Nature”.

2:45pm Leave Minden for Haliburton Micromeadows, arrival 3pm

Baz Conlon is the owner of this small start-up native plant nursery, and an all round nice guy. He is exceedingly knowledgeable about native plant propagation and passionate about our region’s native flora. You can access information about Haliburton Micromeadows from their Facebook page.

3:45pm leave Haliburton Micromeadows for Lakefield, 5pm arrival.
